Bandiwall's inspiration comes from Margilan, located in the Fergana Valley of Uzbekistan — one of the most important weaving centers along the Silk Road for centuries. This city, the birthplace of world-renowned Ikat fabrics such as Han Atlas and Adras, is a symbol not only of fabric production but also of cultural heritage.
At the foundation of this tradition lies Abrbandi, formed from the Persian words Abr (Cloud) and Bandi (To Bind). Before weaving, threads are masterfully bound, individually dyed, and then unbound for weaving. This process creates soft transitions at the edges of patterns, reminiscent of clouds in the sky. Each pattern carries the traces of craftsmanship and patience; no two fabrics are ever exactly alike.
It was not only this art that inspired us.
For centuries, across different geographies of Asia, people transformed their living spaces with fabrics. Walls, ceilings, and living spaces were adorned with fabrics not just for protection, but to bring warmth, aesthetics, and identity. Fabric was far more than a decorative material; it was one of the most important elements that formed the soul of a space.
We asked ourselves:
"How can we bring this ancient craft and cultural heritage into today's living spaces?"
This question sparked years of research and development. By combining the aesthetics of traditional textures with modern material technologies and contemporary production techniques, we redefined the usage of fabric.
Today, thanks to Bandiwall, not only traditional Ikat fabrics but also various textures and fabric types can be applied practically, cleanly, and durably to walls, ceilings, furniture, and many other surfaces. Thus, the weaving culture of the past becomes a natural part of modern architecture and interior design.
For us, Bandiwall is not just a wall covering system.
